Kuala Lumpur
A metropolitan city like Kuala Lumpur calls for a good pair of walking shoes, an adventurous stomach and a thirst for a rojak (mix) of cultures. Begin by heading to the Petronas Twin Towers where a prosperous 88 floors of majestic architecture stands proudly in the middle of Kuala Lumpur. The tall buildings require a straining of necks when viewed from below. Climb up to the observation deck on the 86th floor and take in a marvellous view of the cityscape below.

For the shopaholics, head to Bukit Bintang, the shopping district of KL. The area boasts newly built malls carrying international brand favourites, as well as a host of local designers and importers. Find clothing, make up, branded goods, cameras and more within minutes of each other. When feet get tired from shopping, hop into one of hundreds of foot reflexology shops around for a stretching of feet arches.

Continue the hunt for good bargains at Central Market too. The cultural hub is the place to go for locally-crafted souvenirs that use traditional art creation methods, as well as antiquated teapots, furniture and other vintage trinkets polished up for new homes. There are also galleries showcasing painting, sculptures and more by international artists and are up for sale.

Explore nature even in a world-class city like KL with a trip to Batu Caves. The limestone formation is said to be around 400 million years old and features a complex system of nooks and crannies to be explored. The caves serves as a shrine for the Hindu community and houses intricately carved statues and altars dedicated to deities.

No trip to KL would be complete without over indulging on some of Southeast Asia's best food. The multicultural society means finding a good plate of anything is easy. Get spicy dum briyani, a mix of tumeric and star anise flavoured rice stewed with curry-powdered chicken or mutton, or the versatile nasi lemak that can be eaten three meals a day. For dessert, slurp down chendol with extra servings of gula melaka and coconut milk for a quick way to cool down in the equatorial heat.
