Gaudo Island, is designated as one of the islands to visit in Jeollanam-do. The island is connected to Daegu-myeon and Doam-myeon via the Jeodu Suspension Bridge and the Mangho Suspension Bridge, and the culture and eco trail, ‘Hamgge Hae Trail (2.5km)’ along the coastline is a heavenly trekking course with an outlook over the mountains and the sea, visited by many tourists. At the peak of Gaudo Island, you can look at the beautiful scenery over the Gangjinman Bay.

Day 4                  Gangjin – Seoul

In the morning, visit Daeheungsa Temple. Believed to date to the Three Kingdoms period (4th-9th centuries CE), some think Daeheungsa was founded by Adohwasang (Monk) in year 514.

Originally this temple was called Handeumjeol, after the mountain’s original name, Mount Handeum. Daeheungsa received little attention until 1592 when Seosan Daesa (monk) organised and trained a guerilla army of 5,000 monks at the temple, to help defend the Korean people during the Imjin War.

Visit the southernmost tip of Peninsula Korea, Ttangkkeut Village. At the observatory you can get a full viewing of the Dalmasan Mountain in the north while in the east, fishing vessels can be seen skirting deftly on the surface of the sea. Atop the summit of Sajabong peak, there is a restored old beacon (Bonghwadae) which in the past was strategically located to warn of approaching Japanese ships.
